National Monuments, National Parks, National Caves... I see a trend...

 The original plan was to take a leasurely drive from our Hotel in Cody Wyoming the day after Yellowstone, and just drive straight to the hotel in South Dakota where the next day we would continue on our sightseeing...


But that would be too easy- We realized Devils Tower was just a short detour from the route we were driving, so we took the detour! :)
 This is a tower of stone that is just on it's own... no mountains nearby for it to have formed as part of.
 The view from the loop trail at the base of it was neat, and we could watch the climbers going up the side of it while we walked around the base.

 I'm so glad we stopped and made the detour to add this to our list of sights.  It really is an amazing little piece of nature.
  The next day we went searching for gold! We went to a mining museum where we panned for gold, and learned how they did tunnel mining for a hundred plus years.



After that we headed to Wind Cave.  It is one of the worlds longest caves and is famous for it's boxwork.  About 90% of the known boxwork in the world has been found in this cave.  I had never really been to a cave until three years ago and since then I've found I can't get enough of them!  I love going on cave tours and wish I could capture the beauty with a photo- I just don't have the photography skills to get great photo's down there yet! :)

Rocky Mountains and Idaho

We left Rich's sister and brother and their families in Keystone and headed on to Julie's family reunion in Island Park Idaho. The drive was gorgeous. I can't get enough of the views as we drove through the mountains. I was surprised at the quality of pictures I was able to get through the windshield of the car while we were speeding along at 60+ mph!  (sorry for the wierd formatting of pictures... trying different options of hosting sites here! :)) Upon arrival at the cabin in Idaho we wasted no time and started the games and fun. Grandma (my mom) had some things she shouted out and everyone that fit in the group would go and sit by the fireplace for a group picture... "A" names, Born in Utah, Born east of the missisippi, etc... it ended with all the girls and all the guys taking group pictures. The next day we went on a gorgeous hike. The kids surprised us and just took off on the hike. We had to send Rich off to catch up with them instead of tagging bac...

House projects

After a few weeks of Rich working from home, we decided that we needed to do some moving around of stuff in the house.  The exercise equipment needed to be taken out of the office, and we made the decision to dismantle Alex's room since it's downstairs and that would become the new exercise room.  His stuff got packed up, and the room was painted and the treadmill was put into that room (which was a feat of it's own!  It won't come out of that room until we move away, and maybe not even then! lol! The office got a coat of paint as well and two of the bathrooms.  Now the entire house (except for closets) has been painted since we had moved in 3 years before. But then the biggest house project was thought of, and debated and decided on.  We had always said that we would like to redo the kitchen in this house, and decided to tackle the project.  We found cabinets online we liked and worked with a company to decide on our cabinet layout, and we ordered them....

Our Dog Tale...

So... we have spent the last three weeks looking at puppies online, finding one that would be great for our family. We found an adorable little 4 month old black lab from a lab rescue in Tulsa, about an hour and a half drive away. We contacted them, and filled out the adoption application paperwork. Sent pictures of our fenced back yard, and got approved to adopt her. The lab rescue had named her Regina, for their records mainly- they generally called her puppy and girld so that she would easily adapt to a new name. We bought a large crate (she would get big!) and food bowls and a collar, leash and tag for her and on Saturday we drove to Tulsa to pick her up. The lab rescue was doing an adoption fair, so they had all the dogs they were trying to adopt out at a Petsmart and we meet them there. We got there around 1pm. As I was walking over there were a few people asking about a cute little puppy, and I overheard that it was Regina, and she was being adopted... I then said that I was Jul...
