Another day I took my four kids and Ann's two oldest- Elizabeth and Hope and we drove up to Mammouth Caves in Kentucky. It's about an hour and a half drive and since we had such a great time at Carlsbad Caverns last winter we thought we would go and check it out.
I didn't get any great pictures in the cave... something about keeping an eye on six kids, and trying to get the right settings on the camera in the dark cave didn't equal a bunch of great pictures... but here are a couple of pictures that you can actually see something in.
Mammouth Cave is the world largest underground cave that has been explored. And they are still finding and exploring new passageways! We took the "New Entrance" tour which had us walking down lots and lots of stairs, and through a part of the cave where we could then walk right out on the side of a hill. We had a good time. The kids were great and stayed with their buddies and we had fun learning more about the cave's history and ecosystem. The kids didn't even get scared when they turned all the lights out to show how dark it is without any lights.
We then drove back to Ann and Jeremey's house, and picked up pizza on the way home. Ann and Jeremey left for a well earned night off and the kids and I played games, and watched movies until I decided it was lights out for the night. Ann's little guy went right to sleep, and slept all night for me... and we had a nice calm evening and I even slept a few hours!
The next day was our last day in Tennessee. We played more games and the kids just all had fun together. Ann and Jeremey came home that afternoon, and we just had a nice day and evening visiting.
On Saturday we loaded everything back up into the van, and took off on our 11 hour drive home. We only forgot one major item... a dvd case full of Ashley's Harry Potter Movies... with Ashley's tears flowing we called and let Jeremey know to look for it and to please mail it to us.
We had a fun time, it was a great chance for the kids to get to know their cousin's better and I'm so glad that we were able to go out and visit with them.
