Cruise! Day's 1 and 2

We have good friends that went on a cruise last year, and due to the swine flu epidemic in Mexico- never got off the boat until they were back at the original port.  The cruise company gave them 1/2 off a cruise this year because of that and they talked Rich and I and another couple into coming on the cruise with them. :)

We had a great time!  It's always great to have a chance to spend a few days reconnecting as a couple without the kids along.

On Sunday it was Mother's Day and we went to church with the kids.  I had missed Mothers Day the previous year and I didn't want to miss it again.  We went to sacrament meeting and there were some really great talks.  Then the primary kids got up and sang- always a little tear jerker... :)  Then when Sacrament meeting was over we gave the kids hugs and kisses, passed the car keys off to their wonderful babysitter for the week and we took off on our trip.

A quick stop at the house to grab our suitcases and change out of church clothes and we were on our way.  We drove down to Rich's sister's house in Magnolia TX... a 6 hour drive.  It was the longest drive we've ever taken with just the two of us.  How quiet it was with no one asking for snacks or drinks along the way and no fighting between kids to have to break up.

We got to Sharon and James house and had a great time playing with their kids and catching up with them.  They had just gotten two puppies and the kids were wild with excitement over that.  It was fun to see them and it had been far too long since we had seen them.  We are looking forward to when they stop by our house for a day this summer.

On Monday we got up and spent some more time with Sharon and her girls and then drove the additional 2 hours down to Galveston where the cruise departed from.  We were on the ship by 1:00 and had to wait awhile before we could get into our room.  Once we got into our room, we unpacked and sat back and enjoyed the view as the ship left port and we were underway.  We saw the Dole Bannanna boat... full of bannanna's for everyone and the trucks lined up ready to unload it.  We saw a big freighter that was loading up cars and John Deere Tractors to ship off to somewhere.  We passed by the coast guard, and then the bird came flying up and passed by us as we were headed out into the Gulf. 



We then meet up with our friends at dinner and had a great time.  We were probably the loudest table in our section.  The other tables around us were filled with older groups of people, but each and every night we had a wonderful dinner time.  Usually we were one of the last tables to leave the dinning room.  After dinner we would head over to the theatre and sit and talk and play dice and card games while waiting for the show.





Tuesday morning we woke up and looked out and saw the bluest water we've ever seen (it is our first cruise afterall!).  We had a wonderful day just relaxing on the ship.  We had a yummy breakfast, played some games, exercised, grabbed some lunch and laid out in the sun.  Played some more games and watched out friends learn some dances, played on the water slide and laid out some more... and dressed up for "formal night".  By then I realized that I hadn't reapplied the sunscreen enough and had a nice burn on my legs... oh well! :)  We stuffed ourselves at dinner with the yummy food and laughed and laughed and laughed with our friends as we talked and watched the evening show and just had a great time.

House projects

After a few weeks of Rich working from home, we decided that we needed to do some moving around of stuff in the house.  The exercise equipment needed to be taken out of the office, and we made the decision to dismantle Alex's room since it's downstairs and that would become the new exercise room.  His stuff got packed up, and the room was painted and the treadmill was put into that room (which was a feat of it's own!  It won't come out of that room until we move away, and maybe not even then! lol! The office got a coat of paint as well and two of the bathrooms.  Now the entire house (except for closets) has been painted since we had moved in 3 years before. But then the biggest house project was thought of, and debated and decided on.  We had always said that we would like to redo the kitchen in this house, and decided to tackle the project.  We found cabinets online we liked and worked with a company to decide on our cabinet layout, and we ordered them....

2013 Tour of California: days 12, 13- Six Flags Magic Mountain, Hollywood

Sunday, June 2nd.   After church in Santa Rosa, we made our way south to Six Flags Magic Mountain. Monday, June 3rd.   Ashley had been waiting forever to go to this amusement park.  She is the thrill ride queen and can't ever get enough of the fast crazy rides.  Rich's brother Dave and his family (who the kids and I stayed with on the drive out) drove out from Arizona and joined us as he and Amanda are thrill ride junkies too. :)  We had a great time- so good that I didnt take very many pictures, but we spent two and a half days at Magic Mountain and had fun the whole time. Tuesday, June 4th.   After spending a few more hours at Magic Mountain, we drove down to Hollywood.  We stopped and walked along the walk of fame and found the stars and handprints of famous actors we like.  Most of those pictures are on Ashley's phone, so I'll have to add them later. :) That evening we checked into our home for the next four nights- Disney's Grand California H...

Our Dog Tale...

So... we have spent the last three weeks looking at puppies online, finding one that would be great for our family. We found an adorable little 4 month old black lab from a lab rescue in Tulsa, about an hour and a half drive away. We contacted them, and filled out the adoption application paperwork. Sent pictures of our fenced back yard, and got approved to adopt her. The lab rescue had named her Regina, for their records mainly- they generally called her puppy and girld so that she would easily adapt to a new name. We bought a large crate (she would get big!) and food bowls and a collar, leash and tag for her and on Saturday we drove to Tulsa to pick her up. The lab rescue was doing an adoption fair, so they had all the dogs they were trying to adopt out at a Petsmart and we meet them there. We got there around 1pm. As I was walking over there were a few people asking about a cute little puppy, and I overheard that it was Regina, and she was being adopted... I then said that I was Jul...
